Travel Tips - Laundry Bags

Travel Tips - Laundry Bags

This is such a simple travel tip, I have no idea why it took me so long to figure it out. And, at least for our family, it addresses two annoying little travel annoyances with one solution.

When we travel, we never seem to have a good place to store all of our dirty clothes. I usually end up using a combination of those tiny hotel laundry bags, trash bags from vacation rentals, or recycled bags from souvenir purchases.

When we returned home from our New England road trip this summer, we had nine days of laundry for four people in roughly ten tiny bags. The other issue - it was all mixed together! Now, it is super simple to determine what belongs to me and what belongs to my husband, but at home I do the boys’ laundry separately because they are close enough in size that it requires carefully checking sizes on faded tags to determine which clothes belong to which boy, and I usually still mix some of it up resulting in a future argument over who has “stolen” whose socks/shirt/pants/etc.

In the three days it took me to sort through and wash all of the laundry from that trip, I decided it was time for a better solution to both of these problems. After a quick internet search, I settled on these inexpensive nylon laundry bags. They fold up and take up virtually no space in your suitcase. And they come in multiple colors. So, we now all have a different colored one for when we travel.

I don’t expect these will help me with the third problem we have when traveling with kids (and at home, too) - the constant need to remind them to pick-up their dirty clothes from the floor - but two out of three isn’t bad, right?
