There are three things we try to look for in all of the places we visit - a local donut and ice cream shop and an independent bookstore. 

This past Saturday was rainy and dreary, so we decided to play tourist in our own town, and check-out two in one trip. This is how we ended up at Fox’s Donut Den for a sweet treat before we headed to Parnassus Books, Nashville’s beloved local independent bookstore. 

This was not our first time at Fox’s Donut Den, which has been serving the Nashville area for 50 years. When I was much younger, I worked across the street from the Donut Den at the mall, and I loved to stop in for a cinnamon twist on my way to work on weekend mornings.

Today, my kids like to go as much as I did back then. A favorite is their famous star donuts, and you can’t beat their popular glazed donut. In addition to an assortment of freshly-made donuts, they also have apple fritters and kolaches that keep fans coming back time and again.
